True maturity does not abandon innocence or trust. An intact self matures in close connection to our joy, curiosity and inventiveness. We start as little explorers and creators, each day is an experiment and journey. For some of us this remains true, even if we have had trauma. Some of us have not had trauma, but we still lost our child like abilities, we may have grown and faked our way into adulthood, leaking our mischief when the pressure is enormous, abdicating authority and shirking response-ability. Trauma is not the deciding factor in soul evolution, choice is. We may become more of The False Adult, someone who pretends to be a grown up but is possibly hiding secret behaviors that never evolved or transitioned, and interacts more as a adolescent. One clue about The False Adult is they may first find blame in an outside authority before doing the inner work (government = bad parents for example). Reclaiming the lost innocence, joy and curiosity for reality is the important practice. Using money or lack of it as a poignant and timely example, we can ask The Child Archetype to reveal some universal truths about maturity. Does a child in the care of loving parents worry about money or stress about it even if the family is poor? Does the wealthy, dysfunctional family make the child feel secure in their path even if they have money to burn? Encoded in these questions is are answers that help describe how the child’s experience forms the grown body’s experience. I say grown body because many of us have a younger consciousness than adult maturity much of the time, which isn’t a judgment, it’s a marker. Clearly having money is not a marker for maturity, easily decoded in polluting cooperations and unsustainable practices for profit. Beliefs and attitudes about having it or lacking it are markers though and point to shadow. Choosing trust and integrating the innocence of The Child Archetype might be a good guide if you are working with money or other worries right now. Photo Marilyn Minter, Mercury. .
