I just love a good story about overcoming adversity, and I have to give my niece a shout-out.
My niece, despite years of raging self-doubt and paralyzing anxiety, found the courage a couple of months ago to sign up to audition for The Voice.
This was a huge step for her, and she understood that, no matter the outcome of the audition, she was already a winner for mustering the courage to sign up and to show up.
That audition was this past weekend.
She did not get a call-back, but she said it was a great experience and it has only inspired her to work harder.
I am so damn proud of my niece and so happy for her. She has overcome so much.
I’ve been learning some important things these past couple of years on my personal growth journey, and I believe that, through this experience, my niece got a taste of some of those lessons:
Happiness comes from facing your fears.
Happiness comes from showing up for battle, doing your best, and then working to do a little better the next time.
Happiness comes from uncovering some of the strength that is buried under all the shitty things we tell ourselves.
Happiness comes from having a goal or a dream or a project and then becoming more of the person you’re meant to be as you work toward it.
I love you, Mackenzie!
